Commonly known as gastrointestinal (GI), gastroenterology focuses on in the health of the digestive tract and diseases that may compromise this organ’s ability to function properly. District Medical Group (DMG) includes gastroenterologists specially trained in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the digestive tract, which may involve the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, bile duct and pancreas, such as:

  • Acute and chronic pancreatitis

  • Cancer of the bile duct, liver or pancreas

  • Gallstones

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other swallowing disorders

  • Hepatitis A and B and autoimmune hepatitis

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis

  • Liver diseases, including fatty liver disease

  • Nutritional complications

  • Scarring and damage of the liver (cirrhosis)

Our gastroenterology physician team also includes board-certified, fellowship-trained hepatologists who specialize in the treatment of liver disease, including cirrhosis of the liver, fatty liver disease, liver cancer and more.

Pediatric gastroenterology

If your child is experiencing abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, failure to gain weight, feeding problems, constipation or dietary issues, you may be referred to a pediatric gastrointestinal specialist. Pediatric gastroenterologists treat health issues related to:

  • Digestion

  • Liver function

  • Nutrition

Our board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatrics gastroenterologists specialize in treating children of all ages for:

  • Abdominal pain

  • Chronic constipation or diarrhea

  • Crohn’s disease
