Personal History & Interests

Dr. Brenda A. Gentz, FASA has joined DMG as the Valleywise Health Chair of Anesthesiology.  Dr. Gentz was been a member of the University of Arizona teaching faculty since 1997.  She most recently served as Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Anesthesia Medical Director at Banner University Medical Center South Campus.

Dr. Gentz was the Chair and Section Chief for Anesthesiology 2016, the American Society of Anesthesiology’s Annual Meeting.  She is a Past-President of the Arizona Society of Anesthesiologists and is Program Co-Chair for the Annual Meeting.  She is an Alternate Director and Delegate to the American Society of Anesthesiologists and has served on multiple national committees, including the Committee on Trauma and Emergency Preparedness.

Dr. Gentz is dedicated to the clinical care of patients in the operating room. She has received multiple teaching awards.  Dr. Gentz completed fellowship training in regional anesthesia at the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.  She has organized and trained international physicians who are interested in the management of mass casualty incidents.  She maintains ATLS certification and has worked in level 1 trauma centers for over 20 years.  In addition, Dr. Gentz has worked to develop and expand Non-Operating Room Services to provide safe anesthesiology care for those patients who require diagnostic services.

On a personal note, Dr. Gentz enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and supporting a network of friends she has met throughout her life journey
